Joliet Catholic graduate Taylor Vostry of Plainfield finished in 11th place at the 2010 USBC Junior Gold National Championships July 10-16 in Indianapolis.

He had a 9,493 44-game total (215.75 average), which included 160 bonus points from match play, where he went 8-8.

To qualify for nationals, you had to perform well in regional tournaments. He qualified for the finals as the sixth seed with a 6,229 (207.6 average) through 30 games.

The top 16 from the semifinals advanced to the finals.

A 1,391 in the third day of the tournament bumped Vostry up to fourth place after the first cut to advance to the semifinals with a 213 average through 18 games.

Defending state champion Kyle Anderson just missed the finals, finishing in 24th place with a 6,051 30-game total (201.7 average).

Anderson was in 16th place after 18 games with a 3,715 (206.4 average).

Minooka graduate and Shorewood resident Ryan Lakota just made the cut to the semifinals, thanks to his 194.3 average. He was in 146th through 18 games and the top 10 made the semis.

The top four male and female bowlers qualified for the National Junior Gold team for 2011.

Minooka graduate Amanda Warwick and Plainfield Central’s Chelsea Oshita advanced to the semifinals on the girls side.

On the girls side there were 521 qualifiers with the top 78 qualifying for the semifinals. Through the first three days and 18 games, Oshita placed 60th with a 3,351 total, a 186 average, while Warwick was 76th with a 3,318 (184.3 average).

From there the field was cut to 16 finalists after 12 more games of bowling. At the end of the 30 games Oshita was in 50th place with a 5,595, good for a 186.5 average and Warwick finished in 61st place with a 5,527, good for a 184.2 average.

Bowlers competed in three different alleys with three different sports shots, which are the kinds of shots seen in college and on the professional level.

Oshita's high game of the tournament was a 245 to open the final day.

Also competing in the tournament on the girls side were Lockport graduate Caitlin Hoffman, Plainfield South's Amanda Chamberlin and Joliet resident Tricia Zimmerman. Hoffman just missed out on the semifinal cut, finishing 83rd with a 3,309 total (183.8 average).
